If you're OK with less-powerful seasonings, then a year or two may work
for you. On the other hand, there's my mother:

I was, a year or two ago, at her house for dinner. I decided that the
food needed a little "kick" so I went to the spice cabinet and got out
the tin of hot red pepper. I thought nothing of it, until I tasted the
food: exactly the same as before. I put on more - still no change. It
was then I realised that this spice tin was different from the ones I
have at home, and indeed much resembled the ones she always had when I
was growing up. I had thought nothing of it because it was simply what
I always expected Mom to have, but as it turns out these were the very
same spice tins - with the original contents - that she got when she
was first married. In 1959.

Here's a better one for you, Don, and infinitely more dangerous....I found
(in my mother's house) medication from the 1960s and 1970s. And not only
her's and my father's a"h medication but my Uncle Irving's a"h medication
from the 1960s. Uncle Irving passed away in the mid-1980s. I doubt she would
ever have actually used it, but she insisted on saving it "just in case
someone needs it." I threw out two shoeboxes full of expired medicine.

BTW, consider this a public service announcement (OB Jewish - we need to
keep our bodies healthy). Do not use expired stuff, even if it seems okay.
There was a case a few years ago where a lady got sick from using expired
brownie mix. I think it was a couple of years old. It had developed mold. I
mention this because people do tend to keep unused Passover cake mixes, etc
from year to year. After hearing the story about the lady with the brownie
mix, I have learned not to keep anything past its expiration.

For my wife, one part of "Pesach cleaning" is getting rid of all the
expired medications. G-d bless her!
