Re: Barack Obama on Israel

Indeed.  Can we assume that a member of this group is being

Since she has chosen to belong to a shul that discourages such
learning, she must buy that hook, line & sinker.

Poor argument. Cindy accepts the people in her shul -- regardless of
their views on women's study, which she vehemently disagrees with --
as all being within the fold of Judaism. As okay people. As not
saying or doing or wishing for anything outside the pale of normative
Judaism.

Louis Farrakhan is outside the pale of American society. What he says
is not okay. It is not a view we disagree with and wish he would
change. It is unacceptable and threatening.

So you argue we should look the other way beacuse Obama looks the
other way in his church re: his pastor and Farrakhan?

We should accept the pastor's public endorsement of Farrakhan as just
"reasonable people will disagree."

People choose to affiliate with a particular religious institution for
countless reasons, even if they disagree with a substantial number of
the teachings of that institution or the political opinions of its
leaders.  I'm a prime example, belonging to an O shul.

If that O shul's rabbi publicly praised and honored David Duke, would
you still attend?

Maybe you would.

But for many of us the idea of looking the other way at a pro-
Farrakhan pastor is an infamita.

Obama has no qualms accepting the support of the entire gamut of the
African American political base. Including the NOI. There is a lot
of silent support for NOI among African Americans. To mention the
subject though is taboo, generally.

People also may associate with a person whom they consider to be truly
evil in order to gain a particular goal.  In law school, I spent a
summer working with a far left-wing women's rights organization.  I
was shocked to learn that we were working with a right-wing anti-
choice advocate who quoted N**i studies in support of his contention
that women cannot get pregnant if raped.  Why work with him?  We were
lobbying to extend WIC benefits, which he supported.  That's the real
world.

The ends justfy the means. Fine. Some of us want more in a
president.

Judaism states that one cannot perform a misva by committing a sin.
Sometimes the ends do not justify the means under Jewish values.
David, who fought wars to defend Israel could not build the Temple.
The means he used disqualified him.

In this forum if one disagrees with the realpolitik you just uttered,
they are attacked as "smearing" Obama, and violating "lashon harah
(sic)" . Are those means also justified? Or is it that nasty means
are only allowed in the service of the Democratic Party?

Are any means *not* justitifed in the effort to explain away any and
all of Obama's negatives?

Are all means fair game according to you in the effort to elect Obama?

I have to add, I've never been accused of being an anti-Semite before,
but since I oppose many Likud policies, David claims I must be.  Its
interesting just how many Jews, Israeli and otherwise, meet his
definition.  Sometimes, ladies and gentlemen, a cigar is just a cigar.

Irrelevant to the point. You are attempting to link logically the
absurdity of David's claim with the objections to Obama's looking the
other way.

More realpolitik? Or Orwellian "truth"?
