Hello,
It has been suggested to me that I should introduce myself to the SCJM
community.
A good idea.
I am an English Jew living in London, old enough to learn Kabbalah but
young enough to go roller-blading. I identify myself as Orthodox.
Learning is relative. I don't have semicha and have never studied in
Yeshiva, but have learned some Talmud and parasha, Rashi and other
bits and pieces part time over the years studying at various places
and with various Rabbis & teachers. My wife is more learned that I
am. My Ivrit is not that fluent so while I can access Hebrew texts
with effort (or help) I do tend to rely on access to works in English
to support my understanding of Talmud Torah.
I am interested in Berachot, Fair Trade, Avoiding tsaar baalei chayim
via our consumption, interfaith encounter & exploration, making
peace, Quakerism, British Sign Language and the Jewish Deaf community,
Downs Syndrome, Reading stories to children, Succot and Torah/Tenach
study, waking up in the morning, & new ways to get a minyan.
Interesting mix.
I try to preserve a degree of anonymity on the web as "you never know
who is out there". So I do not give out my address & use my Hebrew
name Yehonatan Shimshon and my English first name, Jonathan.
So do many others.
If I am not very active for a period it is probably because my work
has just got busy.
Best regards,
Jonathan
My suggestion, if you want to ask questions, is to spell out all the
assumptions you're basing the question on.
