It's easy to recognize a Jewish name, i.e. Fisher, Fishman, Roth, Rothstein,
Rothman, Kahn, Klein, Kleinman, Nagel, Zimmerman. Often there is a

It is not possible, and also potentially dangerous, to try and tell
from someone's name whether they are Jewish.

Of course it's possible to try. It's also possible to be right much of
the time. It's just not possible to be right all of the time.

Of course. That was a slip of the pen.

And how on earth could it be dangerous to try to tell whether someone is
Jewish from their name?

I am reminded of the old joke (regulars of a.h.j. and r.h.j. will know
it well) that that has the punchline, "Iceberg, Goldberg, what's the
difference?"
