Yeah, but "extremist" is so vague. Aren't the Amish "extremists"?
Chareidim? Buddhist monks? It doesn't imply anything about their motives,
actions, etc., just that they're "extreme" whatever that means.

The important point about these Al Queda guys, it seems to me, isn't how
they relate to their own religion but how they want to relate to the rest
of the world, and so a political term is the most appropriate one.
