Fiona, leaving aside the question of whether Levin is prejudiced,
this is an anti-Israeli pronouncement from a prominent rabbi.

So what, Israelis aren't allowed to hold opinions? The whole
point of freedom of speech is that you CAN hold anti-[insert
state of choice here] opinions without prejudice.

Did someone try to deny him his right to speak? You seem interested
in everything except the actual content of the rabbi's ruling.

Ruling? What ruling? It was an opinion (that the name Herzl, like
Nimrod,
falls into the category of "names of the evil or indecent) not a
ruling.

Yet another post where you discuss the trivial and not the
substantial. Oh well.

What are you talking about? What is of substance in this matter? It
was a casual remark by a rav on a radio chat show, if you think that
constitutes a ruling please explain why.

Maybe Matt was influencde by the _Header_ of this thread. Jay
treated it like a "ruling".

Nonsense. Perhaps you should re-read what I wrote. I never used the word
"ruling" nor discussed it as a ruling or any close connotation thereof. I
treated it as "stupid". Here is what I wrote:

Hardly. There is much anti-haredi stuff on the net, which I ignore. I also
read stuff which is pro-haredi, believe it or not. I only post anti-stupid.
Especially considering that Herzl is a popular Sephardic name for boys (all
Herzls I've ever known came from Sephardic families) and rabbi Yosef is
(well, supposed to be) Sephardic.
