Anyone might think you have some sort of
obsessive/compulsive
disorder
with
this obsession you have for posting everything you can find
that's
even
mildly anti-Haredi.

Fiona, leaving aside the question of whether Levin is
prejudiced,
this is an anti-Israeli pronouncement from a prominent rabbi.

So what, Israelis aren't allowed to hold opinions? The whole
point
of
freedom of speech is that you CAN hold anti-[insert state of
choice
here]
opinions without prejudice.

Did someone try to deny him his right to speak? You seem
interested
in
everything except the actual content of the rabbi's ruling.

Ruling? What ruling? It was an opinion (that the name Herzl, like
Nimrod,
falls into the category of "names of the evil or indecent) not a
ruling.

Yet another post where you discuss the trivial and not the
substantial. Oh well.

What are you talking about? What is of substance in this matter? It
was
a
casual remark by a rav on a radio chat show, if you think that
constitutes
a ruling please explain why.

No, this is not a casual remark, Fiona. This is a rabbi who serves the
State of Israel as a municipal rabbi, and who has basically told his
audience that the founder of the state was evil. Presumably this rabbi,
who
happens to be Ovadiah Yosef's son, has quite a following, both where he
serves and by virtue of being connected.

If he were to comment on the weather, that would be casual. In this
chat
show, he gave directions to his presumed followers how to act in naming
their children, and basically forbade them from using names of people
whom
he believes are evil, including Theodor Herzl. It may not be a ruling
in
the sense of a question and answer, but it certainly is an instruction
to
those who would (why, I cannot understand) follow him.

So what? So the son of Rav Ovadia thinks Herzl was wicked and advises
people
not to name a child after him, why do you have a problem with that?
Don't
you accept the concept of free speech?

Of course he's entitled to say it. As I posted initially when someone
didn't
like my posting about it, I am not pointing it out because he's haredi,
I'm
pointing it out because it's stupid. IMHO.

Which is also free speech. Though I wish you'd use that free speech
to post some non-stupid things about the haredim once in a while, too.
;-) The newsgroup doesn't have to only be about bad news, we could use
some positive stories as well!

Tim

You are correct. Duly noted.
