Is that why the State of NJ funds charedi yeshivot to the incredible
tune of $14,000 per student per year? When I saw this on Micha's
AREIVIM discussion group (and it was reported by the executive
director of one of the larger yeshivot in NJ) my response was one
of utter astonishment. I stated: "Words fail me".

They should. It is not true.

The funding is not for day schools. It is for yeshivot gedolot
-- i.e., schools of higher education -- which are accredited by the
State of New Jersey and by AARTS, which is the chareidi equivalent of
regional accrediting agencies such as the Middle States Association.
IIANM, the funding is *not* to the schools directly, but is in the
form of student aid, and is a loan, not a grant.

That is not what Josh wrote. And that is still likely unconstitutional.

A list of New Jersey schools eligible for the loans can be found at http://www.alternativestudentloan.com/private-student-loans/schools/state.php/NJ/New%20Jersey

No
religious schools per se are on the list (I'm not sure what you would call Friends), and few below college level. No Jewish schools are on the list, nor are any parochial schools of any denomination. Aid to children going to religious schools, with a few exceptions (lunch, books) is unconstitutional.

A "Friends" school is run by Quakers. Definitely at least a quasi-religious orientation. However, the "Friendliness" of the schools may vary.
