Nothing on the ADL website about this. I would like to send it out to
my personal mailing list, but I don't want to end up spreading a
non-story so I am going to hold off a bit.

I know, I'm cautious with hoaxes too. Check out the jta site I gave
above.
I did. And the combination of it being "breaking news" and nothing on
the ADL site makes me suspicious.

Allegedly, there's a HaAretz article about this: http://www.haaretz.com/
hasen/spages/568925.html, but I get a 404 error when trying to visit it,
and it's not in the Google cache.

I would say go ahead and distribute it to anybody who you feel should
know about it. Even if mass killings and kidnappings of Jews are taking
place in Africa, I assure you that transferring money in the way 419
scams do isn't going to help them. You can pass that on to your friends.
If there's a crisis, they can donate to a REPUTABLE Jewish relief
organization.
