Oddly enough the mara d'atra suggested that we should have only one Kohen

I guess very few people read Megillat Ruth, and instead believe that Rabbis
should make a mockery of conversion.

Megillat Ruth is your idea of easy coversion? Her mother-in-law put
her through torment before accepting her. She even had to agree that
she was subjecting herself to the possibility of harsh forms of
capital punishment, and that she might have thereafter to be buried in
special cemeteries for those put to death by stoning or burning, or
for those put to death by beheading or strangling.

I have read Ruth many times, but while Naomi did not paint
a joyful picture, the harshness of the picture was dying
childless.
