What?
This was a really stupid thing to say.

I see that you disparage the talmudic dictum "halacha hi b'yadua
she'esav sonei l'yisrael". It's so "nice" to hear people ridiculing
traditional Jewish thought on soc.culture.JEWISH.moderated :-)

Translation, please? That's the second time in this thread I've seen
the phrase, but still don't know what it means.

----------
It means "it's a known law that Esav is the enemy of Yisroel."

Actualy, "Halakha" in that context means "formulated tannaitic
tradition".

The statement means "Halakha: Esav fundamentally cannot abide
Ya'aqob".

"Esav" was a Rabbinic code-term, and it does not apply to "gentiles"
in the abstract. The tradition refers to political ideas, not
religous or ethnic.

So while the statement is very much a Rabbinic one, to say it means
"all gentiles are born anti-semitic" is a crude and barely literate
rendition.
