I see that you disparage the talmudic dictum "halacha hi b'yadua
she'esav sonei l'yisrael". It's so "nice" to hear people ridiculing
traditional Jewish thought on soc.culture.JEWISH.moderated :-)

Translation, please? That's the second time in this thread I've seen
the phrase, but still don't know what it means.

It means "it's a known law that Esav is the enemy of Yisroel."

While this may be a literal translation, it does not convey exactly
what the phrase means. Halacha here does not mean "law", it means
'this is the way of the world'. Beyadua does not mean it is known, it
means 'it is certain' or 'it is a fact'. Thus, the prase is more
correctly translated thusly, 'it is a fact that the way of the world
is for Esav to despise Jacob'. It is not because of environment or
teachings that Esav comes to hate us. It is thus that Esav was
created. This is his natural inborn tendncy. It requires a great deal
of teaching and environment to cause Esav to unlearn his native anti
Semitic tendencies. Such efforts, while worthwhile to pursue, are
often unsuccssful.
