I don't pretend to be a sofer
Yet, you claim to know the halacha better than a sofer.
No, I nowhere made any such claim. Are you really that desperate to
"win" a
discussion that you have to so painfully distort what actually said?
I noted that there was a perfectly kosher way to inscribe parchments for
t'fillin that had been long accepted. Now that process was deemed
unacceptable, so that the expense of writing the parchments goes up,
making
fulfilling the mitzvah of acquiring and using t'fillin has become more
expensive. Necessary? No. Simply more of the "holier than thou"
posturing
which burdens O and non-O Jews.
Your statement is contradictory of your earlier statement.
Cindy states that the Law prohibits what you call "long accepted as
perfectly kosher". Most soferim agree with her.
You nonetheless insist that it is "perfectly kosher" and anyone who
disagrees with that is "holier than thou" and an endorser of
"stringencies."
This is based on information you obtained from "a rabbi."
Cindy thus asserts you seem to think you know the Law better than a
sofer.
Instead of all this bickering, why not cite th elaw? Forget "a
rabbi". Discuss the issue!
Stop the hearsay and if yo have a case, well then present it.
A subjective impression as to what is "long accepted" means NOTHING.

Thanks, Jacko. We have been through this before. The last time, I presented
my case, not only was Dan unable to contradict it, he demonstrated that he
didn't know the first thing about the halachos of tefillin (thus prompting
my present request that he explain the differerence between dakos and gasos.
I don't recall the discussion, but you should be aware that C decisors
accept the coated tefillin under certain circumstances (the main
concern appears to be that the coated, less expensive parchments are
more likely to have problems unrelated to the coating), and suggests
that the controversy over the process of coating the parchment (to
make it easier to write on) has been going on for centuries, meeting
my own personal definition of *long*. See
