You sure know your Christianity.

Yes. And ...?

I'm guessing the person who wrote the story is not a Catholic and
doesn't know the difference.

The mistake should have been caught by somebody at the copy desk.

It wouldn't hurt you -- and Patricia Cohen -- to know a little more
about Christianity and its various parts, inasmuch as you and she
inhabit the same world as they do. -- Q

By that logic "you...inhabit the same world as they do" one should
learn about _every_ cockamamie "group" in the world!

The RC church is fairly mainstream and not a "cockamamie group".
While there's generally no reason to study the teachings of other
religions, it's still worthwhile to know something about them if we're
going to criticize or critique their actions, beliefs or doctrines.
Otherwise, we're just shooting from a position of ignorance.

But that was not Q's reason. She said: "inasmuch as you and she
inhabit the same world as they do."

It was _that_ "reasoning" I was mocking.

I agree that to "critique their actions, beliefs or doctrines" we
should know _something_ about them. For example, I _know_ they've
been killing Jews for close to 2,000 years and I "critique" that
very strongly!
