Sorry, but this isn't Starship Troopers or Heinlein World, and you
don't have to be a veteran to be a citizen or to vote. Similarly, we
don't disenfranchise people from participation in public life for lack
of service, although that idea would seem to eliminate a lot more
Republican office holders than Democrats. (Maybe we should consider
it... That would take care of the Cheney problem as well as shutting
Limbaugh's hate-mongering from the airwaves.) And the US is not only
not the first choice for a military to send into action if needed, but
is one of the least influential countries in regard to their
government and economy. Frankly, China is missing a chance to show
its strength and leadership, as they're a major trading partner with
Darfur and have the ability to influence what's going on a lot more
than we can. What we can do is to pressure the Chinese government to
act.
not too many Chineese government or military officials, nor any
individuals in position to influence Chineese policy.
You need to stop whining about this.
So if it is the
Chineese who can do something about the genocide in Darfur, Mr
Silberstein needs to stop whining about it here in SCJM, and address
his plea in venues where readers might be in more of a position to do
something.
Please fine one place where I have whined about Darfur. And please
tell me why Jews should not care about on-going genocide.
You are correct about the USA not being at all suited to intervene in
Darfur. Our recent attempts at such interventions elsewhere were quite
far from successful. And you are quite right, that most of us as
individuals are not suited to personally intervend. So what is it that
Mr Silberstein wants us to do about it?
Have you bothered to look at the links in my sig?
Oh yes, I remember. He wants us to attend rallies.
Really? You have an interesting memory.
And he takes
certain Jewish groups to task because he has not noticed their members
in attendance at the rallies.
Really? Seems like that interesting (and interesting does not mean
accurate) memory is working here as well. How about you find one post
from me where I took any groups of Jews "to task" for not attending
anything? Just one post.
I think we can agree that attending
Darfur rallies will not stop the genocide.
Now that is interesting: you think that one act should stop the
genocide and since attending is not that act it does not matter. By
that logic since no single act by any American would have stopped the
Shoah it was ok to do nothing. Since no one act by American now would
stop Palestinian terrorist there is no need to do anything.
I did say that were I
several decades younger I might consider strapping on some weaponry
and joining Mr Silberstein's merecenary force to invade Darfur and
kill the killers. But Mr Silberstein is not actually organising such a
force, he is only whining about attendance at rallies.
Please do not confuse your fantasies with what I have actually
written.
So those of us
who are younger and are perhaps capable of actually doing something
will not have the opportunity to act.
So in your view only those young enough and able to engage in warfare
have a right to discuss political issues. I am happy that you are in a
small minority.
