I think that the difficulty for Carter is that he failed to anticipate
the extent to which some of what he wrote would be interpreted in the
worst possible light. What he has decided to change is the wording of
a single paragraph, whose meaning was misunderstood -- or so he says.
I disagree, at least wrt the title (which is as far as I've got into
the book at this point;-). I think Carter intentionally chose what he
knew would be a provocative title, knowing it create controversy and
possibly discussion.
I have no doubt that the revision will appear in future printings, but
it's not the practice of publishers to recall books, even books that
contain errors more egregious than Carter's.
For the rest of the story, see:said that Carter knows how to speak out of two sides of his mouth.

Dershowitz is a stranger to politeness, or anything resembling it, and
sophistry is essentially his profession. If Dershowitz really believes
Carter to be speaking out of two sides of his mouth, he would certainly
say so.
Here I agree fully.
And if one believes that Dersh could "wipe the floor" with Carter in a
debate over the ME (and he, Carter, is certainly no newbie to the ME,
having brokered the Camp David Accords), then it seems reasonable to
accept Dersh's modification of his position wrt Carter and the book.
