The obvious answer is that the professor in question did not
think things through. I think that it is appropriate for Jewish
lawyers and organizations in the US to elect (or not) to stand up
for religious rights for others, on the grounds that it benefits
us, too. However, just because one supports someone's right to
practice their religion does not mean one has to financially
support their religion. It just doesn't follow.
I think you're both leaping to conclusions. He gave them a few dollars. He
didn't endow a building devoted to proselytizing Jews.
