My history knowledge isn't good, but, you mentioned WW2 bombign of
dresden. Maybe that was Good, it ended the war. Innocents werwe
targetted in huge numbers. If they had been targetted in small numbers
it'd be questionable. But they were targetted in huge enough numbers to
scare Germany into submtting.

No, you don't know history. The nighttime bombings, of which Dresden
and Hamburg are the most notable examples, did nothing to scare
Germany into submitting. It has almost no affect on the German war
effort. Britain did nighttime bombing, which was wildly inaccurate,
because they did not have the ability to do accurate bombing or fly
above the flak. Since they could not attack a specific target they had
to blow up almost the whole city. They knew there would be massive
civilian casualties. And there is certainly evidence that they wanted
the civilian deaths as revenge for German bombing of British cities. I
consider it a war crime and a fair system would have tried 'Bomber'
Harris as a war criminal. (Of course winner are never tried for war
crimes.) The massive nighttime bombing probably hurt the war effort
rather than helped it.
