If I'd written the above I'd want my name kept off it as well. Didn't
the world go to war against Germany and thus end the Holocaust in the
only way possible (particularly seeing as the Holocaust didn't enter
high gear until after Poland was invaded)? Do I have that wrong?

It's a quintessentially childish pov to assume that whenever something
bad happens it's because someone else stood by and let it.

Also, Palestinians legitimately hate that argument. Germans killed Jews
therefore Jews deserve Palestine as compensation.
The Zionist movement predated the Holocaust, so the argument is not really
one either side agrees with.

Also, linking the Holocaust with contemporary Lebanon suggests
irrational motives--that Israel suffers some form of ptsd, rather than
simply reacting as any state would to such aggression. As I wrote
elsewhere here, the better analogy might be Villa's raid on Columbus,
NM in '16, which prompted Pershing to invade northern Mexico.

Unless I'm greatly mistake, as well, wasn't it Arik Sharon who was
responsible for the first Lebanon adventure, one which ended in fiasco
for all the powers involved, not just Israel.

You are mistaken.
The decion to invade Lebanon was a collective one by the Israeli government.
Sharon did a competent job of managing the tactics, but it would have been
difficult for any commander to hold a tract of hostile foreign territory for
an indefinite period of time, which is what Israel ended up trying to do.

Okay. Point taken. But what's the plan here?

The right is so hysterical in its justification of the use of arms
that there seems no opportunity to discuss what the IDF might do with
the territory it siezes in Lebanon.
