A month ago, on Mon, Apr 24, 2006 at 11:45:54PM +0000, I wrote in
reply to Moshe's complaint:
:: If that's true, I think it's a corruption of what it was supposed to
:: be. Sure there will be back-and-forth and arguments, we're Jewish,
:: but the _point_ is to "win" the debate??? Oy. I'm more worried,
:: because for many of us, myself included, that may be what SCJM has
:: evolved into - an on-line debating society.

: "Evolved into"? talk.religion.jewish was the same way!
...
: In the meantime, much good has happened on trj, scj, and scjm....
...

While that thread was going on, a group of us were collecting funds to
buy tefillin for one of our scjm regulars who didn't yet own a pair. They
arrived today!

Not only that, people chipped in to such an extent that there was a
significant overflow of funds, and there are now a couple of NCSYers
who are also getting their first pair of tefillin as well. (NCSY helped
us get a deal on the tefillin as well.)

I'm not going to name names, but the crew was very varied. People who
normally snipe at eachother on list, across OCR lines, even someone I
thought was *anti* O.

And so, if you ever start wondering why spend time on Avodah, remember
this. It's a truly beautiful thing.

As I wrote back then:
: The cup is more than half full, Moshe. Make a LeChaim!

Yes indeed Micha. Thanks for the good news.
