Re: Sweden and Israel: deteriorating relations

I don't see how already bad relations can deteriorate much.
Sweden collaborated closely with Nazi Germany during
World War II. They allowed German troops to transit
their territory, and sold vital iron ore to them. Swedish
officials were told to enfore German/Nazi racial laws
in the case where German nationals wanted to marry
Swedes. The reason they agreed to allow the
Jews who fled Denmark to enter the country
in October 1943 was that they saw as a result
of the major German defeats at Stalingrad, Kursk
and Tunisia that it was likely the Germans were
going to lose the war and so they took in the
Jews to curry favor with the Allies (did the
Allies really care?).
After the war, a certain soul searching was
carried out in Sweden and as a result, in order
to do "teshuva" for helping the Nazis, they
decided to be "pro-Arab" (as well as pro-Soviet
during the Cold War).
Certainly a cynical policy.
Writer Roland Huntford wrote a book several
years ago called "Sweden: The New Totalitarians",
meaning that Sweden is a "Totalitarian Democratic"
state. Really a bunch of sweethearts.
