The track is probably King Without a Crown from his Youth album, it is the
current single I think.
Indeed, Z-100 played it again several times yesterday and today, and
they billed it as "King Without a Crown". Thank you very much.
The song does go into a bit of "we want mashiach
now" kitch but, I don't think it implies he is a Moshichist
I agree, but I was interested. By the way, listening to it for the
second (as well as third, fourth, and fifth) time on the radio today
and yesterday, the fuller context that I caught was something like "I
sing to my G-d songs of love and healing, I want Moshiach Now!".
It just shows how fully he has assimilated the Lubavitch creed.
Agreed, and as I conceded elsewhere in this thread, even non-Moshichist
Lubavitchers (and even most religious Jews wholly outside the fold of
ChaBa"D Lubavitch) would be willing to sing "I want Moshiach now" since
they do await his coming (not counting those religious Jews who do not
believe the coming of Moshiach entails the arrival of an actual person,
of course).
I have no idea what the goyim who
listen to his music think when he goes into that stuff.
If they are not familiar with the phrase or its history, it will just
go over their heads. It is often the case that people love a song and
have no idea what a certain block of lyrics mean (and often they are
not even sure what words are being uttered). This is true of fans of
both Reggae and other genres of music.
Interestingly, as I have been trying to learn more about the Moshichist
movement, part of my "research" (if I may call my armchair
investigations such) included viewing videos on the net, and there are
about a half a dozen different videos out there with Lubavitchers
singing "We Want Moshiach Now". I don't have a computer at home, so I
do all my internet surfing at work. As a result, from playing several
videos over and over, many of my co-workers are familiar with the song
"We Want Moshiach Now". That's why I said in my original post that when
I first heard that line in Mattisyahu's song, many of my co-workers
heard it too. I work at the United Nations. So when the lyric played, a
room full of non-Jews (from India, Viet Nam, Haiti, Jamaica, Peru,
Guyana, and Brazil) all looked up and the same time, and looked in my
direction just as I was expressing my shock and wondering aloud if
anyone else heard that (a very funny experience).
His web site is http://www.hasidicreggae.com/ if you are into it.
Thank you Fiona. I've been trying to play the relevant single (which is
offered in the music section), but thus far no luck from these
computers (sigh). The video of the song in the Video section has also
given me problems. But a portion of the song was found on
http://matismusic.com which I found through the site you gave. Thanks
again!
