Similarly Don, I agree with some of the points you made. But those
points do not, in any way, justify Andy's _comparisons_. Of course
no one wants to see "their" group disparaged. What they do about it,
is all the difference.

But *which* "they"?
Or are we holding the entirety of Islam responsible, each specific
individual, for the actions of every other Muslim? I'm wondering
if that's what Andy may be saying: that it cuts both ways.

He's presented some postings to indicate that there ARE more moderate
Muslims, that not all agree with the suicide bombers (some vocally,
and there are many who are silent on the matter). Yes, the "extremists"
use the Koran to justify their actions (and NK uses Torah to justify
theirs). We can see the "plain meaning" of their Koran - but unless
we are willing to grant validity to outsiders interpreting our own
holy books (how about "Come and Hear"?), why should anyone grant
any validity to our interpretations of _their_ books?

Yeah that's the whole point, the extreme Islamist interpretation of the
Quran is not the outside interpretation, it is the "moderate" interpretation
that is considered by most Islamic authorities as being the one forced on
them by outsiders. The more the West (Christendom, the Dar al-Harb, to
Muslims) demands a moderate Islam the more the traditionalist turn into
extremists as they defend their beliefs for outside interference. Those of
us who call a spade a spade are not creating the extremists because they
already expect to fight with us, you (those who call for the creation of a
moderate Islam) on the other hand, turn moderate, or lax, Muslims into
extremists because you back them into a corner way they have to take sides,
and they will 9 times out of 10 take the side of Islam.
