What I was told is that women are more spiritual than men.
That's why we are not obligated to the time-dependent prayers,
why we don't have to study (Cindy, you _want_ to study), and
are less controlled by our hormonal urges.
--------------
Women are not obligated in time-dependent mitzvos (not just prayers)

POI. Women _are_ obligated to pray, but they don't have the
time-dependent rules of prayer.

because it is considered that we are too busy fulfilling the
mitzvos involved in making a Jewish home and raising children
("Osek b'mitzvah patur min hamitzvah" - the one who is involved
in one mitzvah is exempt from another mitzvah).

Source, please.
--------
I don't have a source. This is the explanation (the only
explanation) I've been given my entire life.

What do you mean? Maxine just gave you a different "explanation" that
women are more spiritual than men. I've heard it here more than once.
-------
I have heard the explanation that Maxine gave (that women are more spiritual
than men) given to explain why men have *more* mitzvos than women but it
doesn't explain why women are exempt from the time-bound mitzvos
specifically.
Best regards,
---Cindy S.

If you are asking for a source, does this mean my statement is
incorrect?

It means I am allergic to giving "the" reason for _any_ mitzvah or
rule. What you're saying makes a lot of sense, but IIRC the Talmud
does not say its the general rule of "Osek b'mitzvah patur min
hamitzvah". Rather it is "learned out" from verses.

If so, what *is* the reason for exempting women from positive
time-bound mitzvos?

Don't expect _me_ to give "the" reason for anything like that.
"A" reason could very well be what you wrote. "Another" reason
could very well be what Maxine wrote. I'm sure there are others.
