Okay. But if you agree, as you seem to, that Israel can't continue to
dominate the ME and the Muslim world militarily, where does that leave
us?

In particular:
Since Sept. 11, Syrian information has been instrumental in catching
militant Islamists around the world, say US officials. But at the same
time, Syria's hatred of Israel ? and the Jewish state's own "war on
terrorism," directed at militant Palestinian organizations ? has
created a difficult balancing act for those who would seek better
relations between the United States and Syria.

Israel, I'm sure, is one the list, but not the only one. Saddam used
his poison gas stockpiles against Iran and the Kurds. Never against
Israel.

Sure:(
But I don't think Iran plans a first strike against Israel. I think
they're looking to alter the balance of power in the ME, to make Iran
first the pre-eminent Islamic power, then the pre-eminent power.
It had to happen. Saddam could be stopped, sure, but gradually other
countries are joining the nuclear club. India's bomb made Pakistan's
inevitable. Israel won't be the ME's only nuclear power for very much
longer... even if Teheran isn't the first Muslim one.

It *is* terrifying.
