Others gave the meaning.

I just want to point out that since Moshe Rabbeinu was "of thick lips"
(aral sefasayim), he couldn't say the letter pei. (Try it, the letter
is formed with the lips. The sign is therefore singularly apt, since it
involved a miracle -- and one they didn't see coming when they were told
of the sign!
