As I understand Vayikra 11, it lists the *forbidden* birds. The
implication being that all the rest are kosher.
Insects are tamei, but there's a "permitted list" of four locusts,
while animals and fish are kosher or not according to their physical
features.
So I don't understand what you said in another post: "The only
question about turkey is whether or not it is considered,
halakhically, to be a variant of chicken, which is not forbidden.
There were some who had no source to say that it was indeed such a
variant, and they didn't eat it. When those who had a long tradition
to support the fact that it is a variant of chicken informed those who
didn't know it of their tradition, the problem went away."
What "long tradition" could there be when turkey is a New World bird?
