Hi Supertech,
(it would help if you don't top post, since I cannot tell who or what
specifically you are commenting on)
What you mean is that it has been publicized widely. The same is known
in Japanese and other Asian archaeological circles. That is one reason
the Japanese household agency still does not allow examination of
imperial tombs, although they opening up lately quite a lot and allow
study of biological nature (including wood, an important
point). However, let me point out here that when I met a very liberal
Japanese archaeologist recently, who espoused this as a reason -
namely that it would turn out that all the contents of the tombs are
Korean in origin - I answered that it is preposterous to claim then
that the inhabitants *are* Korean. After all, when the grave of a
Celtic princess in the Massif Central (in France) was discovered to
hold many bronze objects, all of which were manufactured in the Greek
Islands, this did not lead anyone to assume that the grave was that of
a Greek princess who had travelled all the way to France and been
buried there on her death!
In other words, no-one in Japan actually disputes that Koreans made a
huge impact on Japan, the argument is more about when a separate
Japanese identity arose. After all, for many centuries, Koreans and
Japanese *were* the same,
Wrong, Koreans never considered and will never consider themselves to be the
same as the native Japanese.
The native Japanese has been called a "midget" race by both Chinese and
Koreans.
You wouldn't want to identify yourself with "midgets".
The reason Koreans have been scoffing at Japanese Emperor and his clan is
because it was looked like as if he was boasting to become a ruler of a
midget race. To the people in the peninsula, it was a laughable disgrace.
No one in Korea in ancient or present would think it was a great feat. You
can tell by reading the history how easily they(Yamato faction) managed to
conquer and unify the whole islanders.
Especially to the conservative side of the people remained in the peninsula,
mixing with the midget race itself was a despicable disgrace. It is no
surprise that Koreans didn't take these Japanese emperor and their clans
seriously who were kicked out of the peninsula after the defeat from the
internal power struggle.
In Chosun dynasty, Chejoo and Tsusima Island(conquered by Chosun dynasty)
were prison camps for the political prisoners.
It was called by Koreans a place you don't want to live for the rest of your
life(O Ji), like hell, with a bunch of barbarian midgets running around half
naked.
In this kind of general perception in Korea regarding Japan in ancient
times, going to Japan for any reason was not a pleasant nor glorious
perspective.- Hide quoted text -
