I am giving my interpretation here which all are entitled to agree
or disagree with. The whole song is based on a "jeu de mot"
because the author starts out saying "what a beautiful thing a
sunlit day is" but he then goes on to say that "his sun" is much
brighter (that "sun" being the woman he loves).
The author then briefly tells us how good this man in love feels
with the air being clear as it is "after a storm" and there is
happiness everywhere as if a feast was in progress.
An ever present washwoman is there wringing and washing
singing while she works. (washerwoman is too long).
And, of course, when his beloved is no longer at her window,
darkness "descends" and our narrator is overcome by a "cloud
of sadness".
Just a final brief note, I deliberately chose not to attempt any
rhyming here. I have also put in the Italian translation along
side those lines that would not be immediately understood by
any Italian speakers that are not familiar with the Neapolitan
dialect.
" 'oi ne " has no real meaning it is an "intercalare". An
expression such as "you know" or "ok" etc. Its main purpose
in this song is to rhyme with "a te" two lines down.

According to Wiki this title translates literally into "[The] My Sun".
Huh? Is that supposed to be "The Sun" or "My Sun" or what?
Also, could someone please translate the lyrics? I've searched all
over and can't find a coherent English version:
