Fatah Would Fight Israel

BASIS FOR STATE OF ISRAEL

People mistakenly think that the legal basis for the State of Israel
is the non-binding UNO partition resolution of 1947, and that Israel
was formed in reaction to the Holocaust. It harms Israel
strategically to seem dependent upon UNO favor, a favor that can be
withdrawn and is being withdrawn.

Actually, the legal basis is the Palestine Mandate a generation
earlier and was intended to correct the historic injustice of
usurpation of the Jewish homeland from its people. By 1947, the
Jewish people had formed a state in all but name. Israel owes nothing
to the UNO and should condemn the UNO for its mistreatment of Israel,
including in the partition resolution, which contradicted the Mandate
by recommending that more of the Jewish homeland (besides the bulk, in
Jordan) be given to the Arabs. In violation of its own Charter, the
UNO discriminates against Israel.

The Olmert regime and supporting media presented the Arab states'
attendance at the Annapolis conference as a breakthrough of
recognition. No, they came to criticize Israel (and to make extreme
demands on it instead of apologizing for their aggression against it).

"Far from giving the UN a wide berth, P.M. Ehud Olmert and Foreign
Min. Tzipi Livni have embraced the hostile body and empowered it to
determine international policy on the three largest threats to
Israel's national security: Iran's nuclear weapons program;
Hizbullah's power in Lebanon; and Palestinian (Muslim) terror and
political warfare against the Jewish state.

The UNO can't or won't stop Iran. Although the UNO to Hizbullah's
side in the recent war, Israel let the UNO set the terms of the
ceasefire, terms which have let Hizbullah regain its strength. After
Hamas seized Gaza, Israel urged more donations to UNRWA, but UNRWA
lets its camps be used as terrorist bases. UNRWA keeps the
descendants of refugees from integrating; they remain irredentist.
Israel attacks pro-Israel critics of the UNO as "anti-peace and
defends UNRWA (IMRA, 4/27 from Caroline Glick).

FATAH WOULD FIGHT ALONGSIDE HAMAS

Fatah warned Israel that if it sent in forces to crush Hamas, it would
assist Hamas (IMRA, 11/30).

So much for the notion of supporting Abbas because his militia, Fatah,
is against Islamist terrorism.
