ISRAEL PREVENTS JEWISH PROTEST 15352 - Shulman
ISLAMISM COMPARED WITH EARLIER BARBARISM
Americans didn't have to worry about Soviets invading. They do have
to worry about attacks by Islamists. For example, "Iran has put
bounties on London novelists, assassinated dissidents in Paris, blown
up community centers in Buenos Aires, seeded proxy terror groups in
Lebanon and Palestine (i.e., Judea, Samaria, and Gaza), radicalized
Muslim populations throughout Central Asia - and it's now going
nuclear." (Mark Steyn, NY Sun, 10/29, Op.-Ed..)
That's just from Iran. There have been other attacks against
Americans, some in the US, and more plots, foiled. Worse, Americans
have been issued death threats. Radical Islam has had a chilling
effect upon our freedom of the press. (Some of the chilling effect is
the more traditional threat to boycott.)
All the more reason not to let people of enemy countries and
ideologies stay in the US.
ISRAEL HARMED ITSELF
When Israel terminated final development of the Lavi jet fighter plane
(partly under pressure from the US), it sold some components to
China. Now China is selling to Syria advanced airplanes that contain
those components. These planes pose a menace to Israel (IMRA,
10/25).
Israel doesn't see China as a potential threat. I do.
PREVENTING PROTEST IN ISRAEL
The government of Israel has issued an administrative order barring
Yekutiel Ben-Yaakov from Judea-Samaria, in which his home and job are
located, for three months. The excuse is that he may organize a
protest against Arabs harvesting olives in disputed groves. No due
process is involved. His attorney isn't informed enough by the
government to offer a defense. Ben-Yaakov denies any basis to the
government's anticipation. He suggests that if the government really
were concerned about the groves, it would issue an order barring him
from them, not from house and job. Also, the government would issue
orders against the Arabs for perhaps plundering the groves.
Administrative detention was designed against suspected Arab
terrorists against whom there was no proof. It has been abused by
being extended to Jews who are no terrorists (Arutz-7, 10/25).
It is extended against critics of the government, a classic fascist
tactic. I think that the government really fears he would organize a
right-wing demonstration against expulsion of Jews. Why, in a
purported democracy, must demonstrations must be prevented by police?
If they must be, then why not target leftwingers who organize Arab
vandalism?
