Woman demands parking ticket as Gaeilge.

"Mr McHugh said he had issued the ticket after he spotted a car parked
on a corner of the main street in Spiddal. It was causing an
obstruction to a lorry which was trying to get past it. The warden
said that, when he came to the car, the driver and a passenger were
sitting in it and he twice asked Ms Ni Neachtain to move the vehicle.

He only issued the ticket when she refused to do so. He had only
spoken to her in English as he was not fluent in Irish.

While he was of the view that the driver understood him perfectly, Ms
Ni Neachtain had only addressed him in Irish. After hearing the
evidence, Judge Fahy fined Ms Ni Neachtain €40, with €50 expenses.

Now, the issue could go to the Irish Language Commissioner, who said
that any complaint would be investigated independently and privately."

I couldn't think of a better place for An Bord Snip Nua to start.

More to the point, I hope the CT will see the complaint for the
vexatious affair that it really is, and reject it.

The point is "that any complaint would be investigated independently
and privately".
This is a luxury that its highly questionable was ever needed and is
certainly no longer affordable.

Speaking of which... I drive in and out of Dublin every day, on one of
the busiest commuter routes in the country, and I have yet to see my
first 09 reg car.

My neighbour has an 09 Qashqai to replace the 08 model. He's a house
painter for Dublin Corpo.
I couldn't make it up if I tried.
