Hmm. The Queens University Student rag mag is called PTQ. One
of the wartime covers showed a pair of Armed and uniformed Home
Guards marching smartly past a couple of scruffy specials with sticks
and a bad case of weapons envy.

So I am fairly sure the Home Guard existed here too.
