Maybe so. But I still maintain that corporal punishment by death
penalty for murder is a HUGE deterrant, no matter what age one is.
However, perhaps we should bring back the Cat-o'-nine tails
instead, as a milder punishment?

I am still not 100% sure about Capital Punishment as I worry about an
innocent person getting it by mistake or miscarraige of justice.
Apart from that, I would say 'string them up', but it's a huge 'if'
and therefore not worth the risk of killing an innocent person. So I
am still on the fence, but leaning more towards the Life Without
Parole side of it.

The US system were prison sentences are massive and if you kill,
chances are you die an old man in the click would also be worth a try
as well. Decent law obeying people in Ireland have been reduced to
little more that potential targets these days.

The days of enlightened liberalism have failed when it comes to
protecting society from crime. They are great for other things, but
no good for crime. We need an extreme right wing approach to law and
order.

I do not believe the death penalty has any effect whatsoever in the
same way that the health effects of smoking are not sufficient to
deter smokers. People stop smoking when the law is enforced and when
it becomes clearly socially unacceptable to smoke in certain
situations.
The laws are there to protect people already; they need to be
enforced. You are absolutely right about the situation having
reached outrageous proportions. It is not just working class kids.
Kids from all backgrounds can turn into horrible monsters, immune from
the law. Middle class kids though have more to distract themselves
with (horses, crochet, fencing, polo, rare orchid breeding) and more
to lose if they go wild.

Your right about us having more to do, big dance halls, live dance bands, visiting personalities and singers such as Little Richard! - Seems we all had plenty to do years ago. What happened? Can't "all" be due to the troubles, surely?
Certainly, the decline in parenting skills and the latch key kids, along with disdain for any authority........ But wait, that "was" due to the troubles, wasn't it!
