it's the Thiepval Memorial in france commemorating the dead of the Somme.
the brits raised a division with a scottish brigade and an irish brigade
from millworkers called the tyneside division
it was destroyed on july first 1916.. the irish brigade led and advanced
further than any other british unit that day, it suffered about 100%
casualties.
the scottish brigade starting in the 2nd line was destroyed before it
reached the official start line.
