I watched that live the night it was broadcast. January 1991! That doesn't
sound right mind.
I remember it well!! Can it really be 17 years??
I remember the tv station pulled the plug on the show, and started to
screen some obscure documentary about italian pottery or something.
The story I heard later was that the producer (or whoever) had taken
it off air in response to a phone call supposedly from the director of
the tv station...but then they found out that that call had been a
hoax, so they put it back on after a bit (after all, it's all about
viewing figures).
Alas, I turned off at that point so missed some of the highlights.
At one point Ollie can be seen necking back wine from a pint glass in
the background on one of his wanders. Also, he lands back on the sofa
at one point with wet hair, coz he'd just stuck his down the toilet
and flushed it, before coming back to get stuck in to the debate.
Don't think they've got the whole thing on youtube. My memory plays
foul probably, but i seem to remember the ultra-serious po-faced
feminist saying something like:
'California has some of the biggest arms factories in the world...'
and Ollie cuts in: 'And shome bloody GREAT birds too'
What mischievous soul arranged to have him sitting right next to her
anyway?
