Re: Blast from the past: don't feed the 'oriel'

My apologies if this has been pointed out before. I haven't followed the
thread all that closely since kill-filing "Oreil".

Some people really need professional help, don't you think?

<quote> ...

A few years back, this group [sci.astro.amateur] had a "don't feed the
trolls" policy which was actually rather successful. Gareth Slee even
posted a pledge, which many of us took, at least in spirit. It didn't
eliminate the trolls, or the occasional chance to enjoy toying with them,
but at least the long, pointless, threads of blather thinned out
considerably.

I don't see Gerald Kelleher as a troll, but more of a "crank."

*Agreed and I did take him seriously with one thread and wasted my time.
After googling his addie (I take an interest in kooks) I seen that he'd even
posted to mathematical groups and they got exactly the same replies that he
gives here which is why he now gets I'm busy cleaning my fingernails
approach from me.

Fact is if we ignored all the cranks we might as well converse on email
because the killfile would be full and sci empty, some of the most
interesting and entertaining threads here have been with kook like trolls.

After the Jewish threads went on a bit I just began to pass them by once
they became yes/no threads, works for me but does still add colour to the
black and white.

Besides I must be posting here now over 5 years and I haven't seen a good
troll yet (no shortage of cranks though) Greg could've possibly slipped in
for his imagination but he was definitely a crank though with his last odd
post or two it seems he's finally got the ball.

Does that mean you're ignoring Terry in the future?
