So, I found the origin of this odd lil phrase. Apparently, the hatters
used to use mercury to make felt for hats. The accumulation of mercury
over the years did its legendary thing, driving them nuts. One need not
be a member of that profession these days. Just eat a lot of seafood in
the general neighborhood of coal fired electrical plants owned by U.S.
corporations.
Why am I envisioning a TV commercial that starts....."Are YOU a
seafood-loving-hatter-who-lives-near-a-coal-fired-electrical-plant......victim
of mercury poisoning?"
