Funneling solar energy is a good one. The pictures of the sun I have
from ancient Egypt show the rays radiating downwards in a pyramid
fashion. While we now know that the sun is so far away that the rays
are more or less parallel. It could be possible, from the angle of the
rays, to calculate how far away the Egyptians thought the sun was -
fairly close at a guess.
Penguins in the antartic do form circles for wind resistance.
The conceptual models of the people close to the equator are up and
down (hierarchical) and those close to the artic are side to side
(lateral).
