New Russian Night Hunter chopper flies at 5-meter altitudes

The Night Hunter will gradually supersede the Mi-24 combat helicopter currently
in service with the Russian Air Force

Flight tests of a brand-new Russian combat attack helicopter Mi-28N (Night
Hunter) have commenced. According to Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force
Gen. Vladimir Mikhailov, the Russian military has great expectations of the new
helicopter. Mr. Mikhailov expressed his confidence that the Mi-28N would enter
service with the Russian Air Force in 2006.

Russia starts purchasing flying tanks

The technical abilities of the flying tank surprised Defense Minister of Russia,
Sergei Ivanov

In the capacity of a newly appointed vice-prime minister, Russian Defense
Minister Sergei Ivanov is not going to supervise individual security agencies
and branches of the armed forces. He is not going to set up any additional
organizations either. He intends to coordinate functions of the
military-industrial complex as a whole. "I do realize a full extent of
responsibility I am going to take up upon myself but the job has to be done
anyway," said Mr. Ivanov. As regards support of the military-industrial complex,
the vice-prime minister is going to set a personal example. On Tuesday this week
he tested a tank literally from the inside on a testing ground in Nizhny Tagil.

The Russian volley-fire rocket system known as Smerch (Tornado) has no analogues
in the world. The Smerch machine is usually made of six launchers and six
transloaders (each transloader contains 12 rockets and has a crane to move them
to the launcher). The unit is capable of delivering mines for the anti-tank and
antipersonnel mining of a territory, destroying armored vehicles, fortified
constructions and command posts.

Central Asia still remains a highly important region for Russia without which it
cannot exist
After the official withdrawal of the US army base in Khanabad, Uzbekistan, and
the republic's re-orientation to Russia, it becomes clear that Russia has been
concentrating more and more of its attention in the region of Central Asia.

Yaknow, Sorry to rain on the parade about Iraq, and for being off-topic, but I
do think some *stoopid* Yanks really need to wake up and smell the coffee.
