Remnants of ancient city of Harireh on Kish Island
Kish Island Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department chief said the second season of
archeological excavations is going to start in the historical city of Harireh in mid
February.
Speaking to IRNA, Ali Lagazian explained, ?In this stage, the architectural styles
and urban structures in the old city will be examined, delineating the streets,
alleys and public places?.
Tourists will be provided with a chance to visit the excavation operations in
Harireh, he said, adding the project would continue until early April.
The historical city of Harireh, located in the east of Kish Island, dates back to the
Ilkhanid era and is reminiscent of the island?s economic boom at that time.
According to Ali Lagazian, the city extends over 90 to 120 hectares and the
excavation operations are expected to last for a long time.
He further said the start of archeological excavations in the ancient mosque of
Masheh was only days away. Masheh is one of Kish?s oldest villages located on its
western edge.
