When I was in Iran in September, I read several articles in the Persian
newspapers written by those involved insisting that this is anti-regime
propaganda and no harm is being done to the major historical sites.
One guy even said "we are Iranians too and will not countenance any
action that will destroy our own heritage".

What is your professional opinion on this (if you have formed a direct
opinion)?
