TESTIMONY Frederick Wantah: By Frederick Wantah - Title wao Editorial
Board reminds the writer was on the bench during high school (middle
school). Does the title is still interesting and relevant to the
younger generation? Maybe not. The title is considered 'ancient' or
'jadul' as outdated. Progress of 'science' today's undeniable, faster
communication and advanced equipment coupled with the latest
development. Along with the impact on the use of language, hence the
wide range of vocabulary that was no longer heed the rules of grammar
anymore, such as through e-mail, sms, aim, skype, facebook and yahoo-
mail. "Ora et lab" comes from Latin and Greek that means "pray and
work" (Indonesia), "work and pray" (Indonesia), "bete und
arbeite" (Germany) and "prega e lavora" (Italy). In fact the title has
an interesting definition. While still living human beings must work
for a living in order to maintain habitat. No wonder people of
Minahasa, North Sulawesi province, known as Om Sam Ratulangi
introduced the motto "the timou to mou tou tou" means "man lives to
educate others" (Home) or "human life to support each
other" (Indonesia). People need balance in life, meditate and pray it
is one therapy that provides both peace of the inner life and
spiritual. The world's major religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism,
Judaism, Shinto, Islam and Christianity teaches its adherents, the
importance of meditation and prayer. From clumps of Christianity
emerged various groups (sects) are mushrooming in many countries. The
emergence of various groups (sects) is interesting to be listened to.
On the one hand, being a container or a means of discipleship in order
to carry out the mandate of the Great Teacher of the good news (good
news) or the gospel around the world (Matthew 28:19-20). However, on
the other hand it makes its adherents confused and wonder? Is group
(sect) which I profess would lead me to heaven? Or vice versa? The
Bible is the basic guideline for all Christians (followers of Christ)
who wants to heaven. As the world of Christ once said that "I am the
way and the truth and the life" (John 14:6). In another verse the
parable that Christ gave "the sheep hear my voice Me and I know them
and they follow me" (John 10:27). This verse suggests that there is
only one group (sect) who will lead followers to heaven. The Apostle
Paul in his epistle to the Ephesians writes that there is only "one
Lord, one faith, one baptism" (Ephesians 4:5). How do I know if I was
in the group (sect) who led followers to heaven? In the Book of
Matthew 25:1-13, Jesus gave another parable about the girls who wise
(wise virgins) and girls are stupid (foolish virgins). This parable
refers to this kingdom of heaven dilakonkan by ten to meet the bride
groom were carrying lamps. Five of the ten virgin is wise and five
others are stupid. Both are stupid and the wise are both carrying the
lamp. But the difference is five foolish just took the lamp, while the
five wise besides carrying the lamp, also took oil in their jar.
Groom's late arrival makes this damsel ten sleepy and fell asleep.
However, in the middle of the night came the sound of distant calling:
"bridegroom!, Embrace him!" Ten this lass woke up and trimmed their
lamps. When he found that the lamp of the five foolish girls are going
out, they tried to get the oil to the five wise girls. But the five
girls who wisely responded that their oil is not enough to be divided
and sent five girls who were foolish to go buy oil. When the five
foolish girl who went to buy oil, it comes the bride. Five sensible
girl and went to greet the wedding party, then pintupun closed. Soon
after came the five foolish girl, and said: 'Lord, Lord, open to us!
"But the master replied:" I say to you, actually I do not know you
"(verses 11-12). The word 'know' here should be recognized, because it
is closely connected with the previous paragraph above, which reads
"sheep hear my voice Me and I know them and they follow me (John
10:27). The lesson is that we find from these reflections? Ten-called
virgin girls, because they have faith in the pure (holy). Two groups
of ten virgin represent two groups of people who were waiting for
Jesus' second coming times. Another parable in the Bible mentions two
groups of people such as the 'sheep' and the 'goats. "Pelita (light)
symbolizes the Word of God as the psalmist says:" Your word is a lamp
to my feet and a light for my path "(Psalm 119:105) . Oil symbolizes
the Holy Spirit. Why not host a party of five girls who know fool? Are
they hypocrites? No. They know the truth, but they did not let the
Holy Spirit working in their hearts and repose their faith on a firm
rock, Jesus Christ. The arrival of the groom in the middle of the
night, symbolizing the coming of Jesus' second coming in the midst of
moral darkness of this world. The description of the moral darkness in
the days of Noah before Earth is destroyed by flood in the days of Lot
and before the city of Sodom and Gomorrah destroyed by fire from
heaven, referring to the world in the last days before Jesus' second
coming times. Five silly girl who tried to get the oil to symbolize
the five wise girls that salvation is personal. Five wise girl can not
help his five foolish girl. Salvation depends on our personal
relationship with God, if I am known by God as a child of his or not.
In other words brother and sister, and aunt om, papa and mama can not
help me. I am the one who already knew the truth would follow the
pattern and example of Jesus and let the Holy Spirit, the Comforter
was to guide my life up in heaven. Thus, 'work and pray' reminds us to
be cautious, be vigilant, because the coming of Jesus like a thief in
