I quote Sandhya Jain, much beloved of certain posters here, in a xenophobic rant:
"As a start, we must expel from our midst all the western agents - like
whites, Indians with foreign citizenship, Indians abroad who tell us
to conform to white expectations, and so on. Let a new form of
Swadeshi and Boycott be our mantras to an independent future."

Is it xenophobia when she includes ethnic Indians who have given up Indian citizenship, and Indians who live abroad (presumably NRIs)?

Yes, it is xenophobic, because in her mind these ethnic Indians have become foreign. Nevertheless, she has food on her table and a roof over her head because these Indians with foreign citizenship and Indians living abroad send money to keep her brand of propaganda going, funded as it is by the sangh parivar.

Sandhya Jain is the daughter of Girilal Jain (former Editor, ToI), and probably does not need any money from anybody (NRIs or the Sangh Parivar). Girilal Jain was sympathetic to the Hindu nationalist cause, and the daughter is so too. Anyways, I think reading between the lines, I'd say that she is saying that only people living in India can help initiate and sustain change, and that "contributions" (monetary or lip service) from abroad are not necessary. That makes sense to me, given the "strings" attached to "foreign" contributions.

What puzzles me is that Jains seem to identify closely with Hinduism/Hindu causes. Or maybe the last name Jain could be Hindu too, dunno.

About one thing she is not mistaken, and that is white people who have a "deep desire" to live in India. More often than not these are evangelists, and I would much rather keep this scum away from Indian shores. I got no problem with whites coming to live and work in India in any sector but the "social work" one.

She didn't make any such distinction, so she is certainly exhibiting xenophobia.

Dr. Babu Suseelan, btw, has been a key figure in the VHP-A for a couple of decades. Which would explain why, despite reams of articles against Islamic violence, he has not penned one word abhorring VHP violence against Christians in India.

If Suseelan is with the VHP(A through Z), why would he write something against it? He is not a reporter and expecting a "fair and balanced" column/blog is a bit much. He makes it amply clear where he is coming from. Aren't there enough non-VHP organizations that condemn violence against Christians in India? Would such organizations condemn violence against Hindus anywhere, unless things unfold in real time on TV? I doubt that. Every organization will try and "spin" it own version of a news story.

The thing about Babu Suseelan is not merely that he is a mouthpiece for the America-based arm of the VHP, but that he speaks at various international anti-Islamic fora, condemning Islamist violence. But as a representative of a group that itself is guilty of funding and fomenting violence and terror against another religious group(which is in no position to retaliate), it smacks of a certain hypocrisy, don't you think?

Babu Suseelan is part of VHP-A? One can be very stridently anti-Jihadi without being part of the VHP (A through Z). With his well-stated position, it is not surprising that he will get an invite to forums run by like-minded folks. Other than websites with axes to grind, there is nothing to suggest that the VHP funds violent activities. Surely, auditors (both in the US and India) would have discovered any hanky panky. If the Indian government so chooses, it can put _all_ "social work" organizations under the tax radar. That should put an end to any conversions, violence, ... Nobody seems to have the stomach for it. Singling out the VHP for such treatment is a no no for me.
