Great Inventions and Discoveries by Indians:
===================================

3. Duration of the day at poles
Gola 16: The gods living in the north at the Meru mountain (north
pole) see one half of the Bhagola (celestial sphere with its centre at
the centre of the earth) as revolving from left to right (i.e.,
clockwise); the demons living in the south at Badvâmukha (south pole)
see the other half rotating from right to left (i.e., anti-clockwise).

No; those at the South pole see rotation in the same direction.
Ancient Indians didn't know a damn thing about the southern hemisphere
anyway.

Gola 17: The gods (at the north pole) see the sun after sunrise for
half a solar year; so do the demons (at the south pole). Those living
on the moon see the sun for half a lunar month; the humans here see it
for half a civil day.

No; those living on the dark side of the moon don't see the Sun at
all.

4. Heliocentrism
Aryabhata claims that the Earth turns on its own axis and some
elements of his planetary epicyclic models rotate at the same speed as
the motion of the planet around the Sun. Some interpreters claims that
Aryabhata's calculations were based on an underlying heliocentric
model in which the planets orbit the Sun.

He correctly explained the causes of solar and lunar eclipses. Yet,
astrologers continued to assume the existence of Rahu and in my
lifetime, I've come across people who believed that Rahu causes an
eclipse by swallowing the moon. Saracenic astronomers explained the
change of season according to a model where the earth's rotation axis
is tilted relative to its plane of revolution and calculated the tilt
reasonably accurately.
