The way it works in the US is that the internet is used to communicate
to interested parties. But the contact then is between the voter and
his/her representative. This is a new phenomenon but it has worked in
the past and hopefully it will work at this juncture. I see no other
means of contacting people to in turn contact their congressperson,
except through the internet. The interesting dichotomy this time
appears to be that the bulk of the opposition comes from the democratic
party, a party that is disproportionately supported by the Indian
American community. It will be interesting to see what this clash of
values will result in: on Indian Americans possibly veering away from
the democratic party if there is no give on this question from the
latter group.
