Brahmanism and Islam

1. Buddhism was already under attack by Hinduism before the advent of
Islam in India. Buddhism had an international outlook based on
commodity
production and trading patterns whereas Hinduism had inward feudalistic
and
pre-feudalistic outlook. Buddhism was more egalitarian but still
hierarchical ie flexible, whereas Hinduism was more rigid and more
hierarchical ie much more infelixble.

2. The historical Hindu Muslim conflict is a fiction created to throw
smoke screen on the historical ruling class Hindu Muslim unity. See
Richard
Eaton's book Islam in India; specially the chapter on Temple
Desecration.

3. Muslims became the top layer in the ruling classes in North India at
any rate. Even the North Indian and South Indian patterns based on two
different religions had politically the same essence ie varna system.

4. Brahmins made a 'deal' with Muslims to keep the caste system intact
and keep on ruling India, otherwise why were not the Brahmins hounded
out of
India?

5. Buddhist traders and petty commodity producers were replaced by
upper class Muslims and 'lower class' Muslim converts.

6. Where there are so called 'low caste' Muslims areas are ex-Buddhist
area.

7. Muslims created the theory of Men of Pen, Men of Sword, Men of Arts
and Men of Service and Menial Men in order to philosophically justify
keeping the caste system intact.

8. Hindus e.g. Sankara on their part created the theory of one God,
borrowing heavily from Islam and perhaps Christianity in order to
create a
ruling class philosophical 'blend' of Hinduism with Islam.

9. However those at the bottom continued with their opposition to the
caste system, basing on Buddhist, Tantric and Sufi core teachings,
rejecting
the irrelevant and adopting the positive from all of these.

10. Whenever people such as Ravidas, Kabir etc. raised their voices,
the
Brahmins always went to the Muslim rulers complaining that these madmen
were
rebelling against caste, Hinduism and Brahmins - see David Lorenzen on
Bhakti.
