wrong.
just see how many languages do google support, your own usenet company!
and see how many languages does yahoo. compare the success.
bang!!
globalisation does not have common language boy. it has common values;
supporting modernity.
Smart businesses will make all efforts to woe you to get your business.
It is likely that one day, even Walmart will sing praises of Kokan and
its people, and will do so in Marathi. They will do so not because they
realise the richness of Marathi but because they want to capture your
market. What we need to look at is how will globalisation benefit us,
our society and our people by way of business. It is well known that
the Chinese suffer owing to lack of proficiency in English in certain
business sectors-- such as service industry and that is where India
scores well. Quite a significant contribution to this comes from our
English speaking workforce. Indian companies that are thriving in
various service sectors consider the ability of their workforce and
their managers to understand and communicate in English as a major
contributor to their success.
anyway the stupidity you (and dixit) do is to devalue your own self
against imposed culture. you mean that studying in marathi and having
good english skills are contradictions!!
sorry uncle. why dont ask bal gangadhar tilak?
dhananjay
The issue of which medium of instruction is better, one's own native
language or a common one such as English is not an easy one to resolve
and different people may offer different opinions. I am witness to so
many of my own friends who had their schooling in Marathi and have
done exceedingly well in their career. But that was a few decades ago.
These days things are much more competetive than they were when we
studied and so the less hurdles there are in 'getting there', the
better. That is why Prof Dixit called it a practical solution to do
schooling in English medium.
Globalisation means several things, one amogst them being an ability to
communicate politely with people. And let me tell you calling people
'stupid' simply because they hold a view opposed to yours is not
considered civil. Also, before doubting our integrity to Marathi
language and Marathi culture at large, you may do well to read through
our posts on this NG. Just in case you can't do this yourself for any
reason, take the help of a ghost-reader in the same way you took the
help of a ghost writter for this post of yours.
