belgav, karwar is not struggling today for its unwanted addition to
karnatak state administration!
the struggle has been there in publics mind and may be they have
adopted to the karnatak administration but people feel that being with
maharashtr state administration the relative progress/ modernity etc
comes to them on their terms like their can be jobs which do not
discriminate against Marathi people who do not know kannad. in fact in
mumbai there is no discrimination for any person who is eligible for
the job because of he cant speak Marathi. unfortunately karnatak
administration fails to live with this kind of arrangement and enforces
kannad culture (language) on not only kannad people (I had friends who
cant speak either Hindi or English but were degree holders!) but also
on these Marathi who keep on pushing away the kannad connections to
them. Anyhow the kannad enforcement for a kannad man is a kind of
protection but it becomes a bourdon for some one like me.
it is not at all a surprise to me that belgav youth takes the matter
seriously and passes a resolution in democratic institution governing
it self/its group. it is seen also following this that karnatak
administration is ruthless when it comes to self-expression and that
too a Marathi expression.
I can’t tolerate a fact that a person anywhere in world is
attacked because of his connections to my culture. be it in taliban
attacking budhdh or be it Kashmiri attacking Hindu pandit, be it
Marathi student under attack of outsider in my state capital.
how do you tolerate the attack on more (mayor ) ? brutal enough to be
telecast by news agencies. why was he attacked? did he say bad things
for kannad culture?
did he say bad things for kannad administration? is it a new age
feeling of his that he wants to connect to maharashtr?
he was attacked because he was Marathi. that boils my blood. he could
have been arrested if he is anti social.
can kanad people attack those who support veerappan and when he
demanded Tamil statues may be all over banglore or something like that
relating to Tamil cultures suppression (!) in banglore etc etc?
in recent monsoon alamatti dam was requested to be released to allow
the rain water drain towards sea by maharashtr state! it was rejected.
the kannad culture has been appreciated by others and me. I like
manglorian fish curry in Sion I go every time to have a flavor. infact
in that hotel I heard one old man cursing the manager boy that he cant
speak kannad (owner is mangloree) and that how he and the grand father
of this boy used to spend time here etc etc.
the administration acts in tough way to remove this public love to each
other. when they advocate that public should remain calm when their
pride is touched (like jijabai/ savarkar/shivaji), when they cry that
society is loosing its tolerance the preacher fails to identify the
cruel suppression of public mass culture by either modernity or by
state administrations to maintain a state of power.
it was bound to happen dear. don’t worry. keep the hand ready to
take up a stone.
there wont be any hutatma on Marathi soil. not again.
Dhananjay
