Nkauj See Qhov Challenge....

Hm! Our Hmong artists are the Hmong version of Hollywood. All the
actors and actresses sleep with each others and when they have enough,
they just move on to the next person or until the young and beautiful
coming along. You call that the artists have investigated and
introspection were ways to address the Hmong problems? They are they
to milk away whatever juice is left in the Hmong.

At least the Christians have addressed the problem and lead the way to
a better Hmong. Resistant as you have been criticizing Christians all
along and yet most credits were given to them. You stated the vices
among Christian populations/groups.... Grant it that Christians aren't
perfect. Everyone is the same as you. The only difference is that
they are willing to take the "challenge" and move on to a "wholeness
or complete" life so that they could have a harmonious life with one
another or with God (if you belief there is one), if not you could
still belief in your ancestors. But, just look at how "puj ua ca yawm
ua tseg" had spiraled Hmong in the pass 5000 years for not getting
anywhere. The Christians got to somewhere and they have hope. That
hope is to have an eternal life (if you believe).

you already know it's people like vimhlub who do more harm to the
progress of hmong society than any character, Nom Phaj or Dr Tom, in
any movie, could ever do. if art cannot thrive in hmong society, no
wonder other aspects of hmong society has been stagnant too.
it's precisely the ignorance, narrow-minded views, and prejudice like
vimhlub's way of thinking that has withheld hmong people from
progress. vimhlub has an ideal in his head and he believes EVERYTHING
should adhere to that ideal; and of course, his ideal is not 'sick'
according to his own taste and judgment, but should you simply
disagree, then you are 'sick' yourself.

vimhlub believes the his dollars will 'vote' for the artistic
expression of hmong people. i think he is dead wrong that his money
will have that much leverage and sway in the long run. in due time,
hmong individuals will rise up and free themselves of the conservative
viewpoints and cultural chains of suppression, if not already. people
with decadent thinking like vimhlub will be left behind, and may even
revert back to primordial way of thinking to preserve that which is
not worth keeping.


again, i challenge anyone and all of you to answer me: which
productions of hmong scholar/professional in the last 30 years has had
the temerity and courage to open dialogs on hmong society's sickness
of polygamy, unfaithful spouses, molestation, underage marriage,
dysfunctional family, gambling problems, domestic violence, etc....?
some ONE has to address these issues, and it seems, it is our people's
artists who dare to rise up to such challenges, investigation, and
introspection.

i have to admit, however, i do hear the hmong christian preachers
addressing these problems in hmong society in a public and open
manner. and i applaud them for such serious and diligent efforts. the
only thing i disagree with with these preachers is that they believe
it's the christian way is the ONLY way that will lead hmong people
away from these problems which is not true (you can see these vices
among predominantly christain populations/groups). but this topic
deserves another thread.
